What The Live Paper knows about you, and what it doesn't

The Live Paper has no sign-in. It never asks for your name, email address or phone number, and it doesn't use your phone's advertising ID. On first open the app makes a random ID on your phone, and that ID is how our server tells your reading apart from other readers'.
What we collect
- What you choose: your edition (country and language), the topics you follow, your age range and, only if you give them, your gender, your city and your star sign.
- What you read: when you open the app and for how long, time spent on each page or feed and how far you scroll, the stories you open and how long you read them, and when you open a publisher's site. This shapes what the app shows you.
- Your device and connection: your IP address and the city it points to (looked up on our own server, using DB-IP's database), the app version, the phone's operating system and model, language, time zone, screen size and network type (Wi-Fi or mobile). We use these for security and to make the app work well.
- Location, only when you ask: if you tap "Use My Location", the phone finds your city once. Only the city's name leaves your phone, never your coordinates.
- Notifications, only if you turn them on: a push token for your phone, your edition and your time zone, so the Briefing arrives at 8 AM, 1 PM and 7 PM your time.
What we don't do
- No ads, and no advertising or analytics companies' code in the app.
- We don't sell or share your data with anyone.
- The Live Paper is for adults (18+). It isn't directed at children.
How long we keep it
Reading activity, IP addresses and device details are kept for 90 days, then deleted. Totals, such as how many stories you've read in a topic, stay until you erase them.
Seeing and erasing your data
In the app, go to Settings, then Privacy & Your Data. There you can see what's stored, download a copy, or tap Delete & Start Fresh to erase everything on our servers and on your phone at once; the app then starts over with a new ID. Deleting the app removes everything on your phone.
Stories and publishers
Headlines and short summaries come from publishers' own feeds. Some summaries are written by AI from the publisher's report and checked against it; they are labelled as such. Tapping through to a full story opens the publisher's site, whose own privacy policy applies there.
Where it's kept
Your data is stored on our own server, run by Vipnanan Paramarsa, and travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
